Re: [MW:27529] TOFD & Phased Array UT which is Better

Dears,

Our prospective vendor is offering TOFD for category A & B weld joints instead of RT for a process column due to RT room size limitations. Is it acceptable by ASME SEC VII DIV-1? What will be the joint efficiency in this case to be used in calculations?

Dear Mohammed,

Both have advantages and disadvantages over each other. PA funda is similar to conventional UT and the no of crystals are more or in other words the angles used for scanning is more in PA compared to conventional UT. TOFD cannot be used on category D joints. Sensitivity wise TOFD is better than PA.

Nitin
