Please look at the attached document ASME Code Case 2235-6.It's old , subsequently all the requirements along with the answers were included in the relevant codes. Automated UT in lieu of RT is acceptable provided all the requirements as highlighted  are fulfilled.

 

You may  search in Sec-VIII, DIV-1 codes under mandatory appendix on UT. As well as Article-4 of Sec-V Code on illustrations of acceptable techniques.

Our prospective vendor is offering TOFD for category A & B weld joints instead of RT for a process column due to RT room size limitations. Is it acceptable by ASME SEC VII DIV-1? What will be the joint efficiency in this case to be used in calculations?
