[MW:36106] Re: BS EN 9606-1 - WQT (Parent Material Group)

Good Afternoon, According to EN 9606-1,  Parent material groups are "Non-Essential", But need to record in the Welder Certificate as per Code Requirement. There is a statement " Welding with a filler material in one group qualifies the welder for welding with all other filler materials within the same group, as well as other groups, listed in Table 3, and welding on parent materials from groups 1 to 11".(@ Page 10). 1.My question is Group 1 Cover all Group 1 to 11? [MW:36103] API 5L series Pipe & its welding rods inquiry

Dear Sirs, Good day. As per API 1104, we are going to run PQRs soon; So, Please give your suggestion and comments for welding the following API 5L series of pipes with the selected Class of welding rods & Fillers : First, let me know if the selected AWS class are OK to proceed or not ? 1) API 5L Gr. X42 :  GTAW : AWS Class 5.18 ER70S-6 +  FCAW : AWS 5.20 E71T-1C 2) API 5L Gr. X65 : GTAW : AWS 5.28 ER80S-Ni1 + SMAW : AWS 5.5 E8018-C3   3) API 5L X70 :  GT : AWS 5.28 ER80S-Ni1 + SMAW : AWS 5.5 E9018M (OR) FCAW : AWS 5.29 E91T1-K2C  Also recommend me for welding parameters such as Amps, Volts, Gases, Preheat, Post Heat, Interpass Temps with site links to make these PQRs successful. Re: [MW:36104] API 5L series Pipe & its welding rods inquiry

Mr. SS, You have not indicated the parent metal thicknesses to recommend the consumable sizes. For a lower thickness pre & post heating is not required. Towards welding parameters such as amps, volts, gases,  please refer to the technical literature obtained  from the manufacturers of the consumables. Re: [MW:36107] Re: BS EN 9606-1 - WQT (Parent Material Group)

Dear Akhil, Your statement from P1 to P11 is true for welders ability to weld & capable of having correct root penetration as well as fusion. but you need supporting qualified PQR established with correct consumables & Amp. Voltage Heat input. Hope my answer satisfies your query. RE: [MW:36108] Re: BS EN 9606-1 - WQT (Parent Material Group)

EN 9606-1 qualifies on the filler material (the FM group). In most cases one FM group, for example FM1 will qualify to other FM groups – for FM1 also for FM2. See table 3 in 9606-1.   In theory FM1 filler material may be used for all parent material groups (1 – 11 as per ISO 15608). But you will never use a welder qualified to FM1 filler material (for carbon steel) to weld parent material group 8 (austenitic stainless steel).   The qualification test will be based on a qualified WPS – or a pWPS (that is also allowed). The welder, when using the issued certificate, shall weld within the range of qualifications for his certificate. So he cannot weld to a WPS qualified to for example group 8.1.   Med venlig hilsen Kristian Lund Jepsen M. Sc. (Mech. Eng.) Senior Chief Consultant 1101248 - Mechanical ...

[MW:36109] APPROVED WPS IN 2G POSITION BUT PRODUCTION WANT TO DO 5G/6G POSITION USING ASME 2G WPS

Dear experts, My contractors wants to use approved 2G position WPS for production joints which in 5G/6g position other than 2G position and WQT for 6G position. References to ASME. Can we proceed to do that or do we need to use approved WPS in 6G/ALL positions? Re: [MW:36127] APPROVED WPS IN 2G POSITION BUT PRODUCTION WANT TO DO 5G/6G POSITION USING ASME 2G WPS

Hi, you need to verify whether the supporting PQR for that WPS qualifies all required positions, the welding position used for PQR can be an essential variable for some welding processes. If the PQR was qualified only in 2G, it does not qualify the WPS for all welding positions. You must check the applicable essential variables for the specific welding process in ASME sec IX .  BR V.bharath On Sat, Jul 25, 2026, 1:51 PM Dominant QC < dominantqc@gmail.com > wrote: Dear experts, My contractors wants to use approved 2G position WPS for production joints which in 5G/6g position other than 2G position and WQT for 6G position. Re: [MW:36128] Re: Automatic welding machines for Pipeline Welding

Dear Mr Kumar, For your applications: 1. Polysoude P6 + MU IV Open Head + Cold Wire —Suitable for SS 25 NB to 300 NB and 2–10 mm wall thickness. 2. AXXAIR SAXX 300 + Open Head—An  alternative with a user-friendly interface. Both brands are available in the commercial market and may cost between 20 and 50 lakhs, depending on the  configuration. Your 10 mm thick and 300 NB size requires  an open-head or  carriage-type  orbital system with a wire feed.   A closed head is  ideal  for thin-wall tubing. Equipment Configuration should have: Inverter orbital power source Open orbital welding head AVC (Arc Voltage Control) Torch oscillation Cold wire feeder Water cooling Weld data logger Oxygen analyser (for purge monitoring) Internal pipe purging system Remote pendant Weld procedure memory (at least 200 to 300 programs) Both systems are good for dairy, pharma...

Re: [MW:36131] APPROVED WPS IN 2G POSITION BUT PRODUCTION WANT TO DO 5G/6G POSITION USING ASME 2G WPS

Hai, Please note that welding positions for procedure qualification is a non essential variable. (in the Previous asme sec IX Editions, addition of position was a supplementary essential variable which is applicable only if toughness requirments applicable) So if you qualify the PQR in any positions will qualify all positions.(for the welding process like GTAW, SMAW, FCAW, GMAW & SAW). Regarding the performance qualifications, positions qualifications shall follow ASME section IX table QW 461.9. Re: [MW:36132] Re: Automatic welding machines for Pipeline Welding

Dear Mr. Suresh, For Pipeline Girth Welding, Lincoln Electric – STT mechanised pipeline systems. Fronius – CMT mechanised pipeline systems. CRC-Evans – Integrated automatic pipeline welding systems. Serimax – Premium offshore pipeline welding systems. are generally recommended. These companies work through project-based sales and engineering support  rather than stocking equipment  through conventional dealers.    C Sridhar.   On Tue, 28 Jul 2026 at 09:50, sridhar cn < sridharcn305@gmail.com > wrote: Dear Mr Kumar, For your applications: 1.
