Re: Re:[MW:24551] Is Sensitive leakt test / Pneumatic Test can be considered as Substitute.

RT has got tolerance ( Some discontinuities are acceptable), so it is better to pressure leak test and RT is not substitute for leak test because while doing leak test some acceptable discontinuities may open which is hindrance in service

Dear Pratish

I am considering the situation you have is on piping weld joint ( it's not mentioned in your query). An hydrostatic leak test is only substituted with a service leak test when it is not practical to carry out one, the conditions for which are detailed in ASME B 31.3 para 354 Testing.   RT is not a substitute for a hydrostatic leak test.

Dear Prakash ,

RT is applicable if its a Golden joint .  Hydrotest / pneumatic is done to check the integrity of the whole line.( welds and material ) . There are services which has 100%RT and pneumatic test as well . So I don't think RT is a option.

Dear Members ,

Please clarify that whether in any circumstances we could substitute RT with pressure / any leak test for services where RT is been included as a inspection method.
