here is my view; contrast is degree of density variation on a radiographic film. Contrast makes us easy to get a clear understanding between relevant indication and false indication.
radiographic contrast is always associated with the subject and film itself i.e. type of film -D4, D7 and etc- , chemical, development time and etc.
