You are talking about 2 different things. BE is not the same as BW. Please let me explain:
You should specify BE if you are referring to a specific pipe end or fitting.
BE=bevelled end. PE=plain end. TE=threaded end.
If you order an NPS 1 nipple PE/BE, you will receive a nipple that is bevelled one end and the other end is plain.
If drafting an Isometric for example, if you are referring to a joint, then use BW (Butt-weld), SW (Socket-weld), but on the material list, the items will be called out as to their end preparation (BE, PE, TE).
Be aware that end preparation differs for Socket-welded joints compared with Butt-welded joints, check your line requirements as per your Engineering department/Customer Specifications.
