Re: [MW:13024] Subcontractor WPS

Hello,

Basically all welding qualification is for assuming responsibility of welding done by contractor.

In your case if Y is owner of the palnt and given complete EPC jobs to X, then it is up to X company to decide whether they will insist their subcontractor to qualify new WPS or may ask them to use their own WPS. Now if X has assumed all the responsibility of welding for the Y customer and Y do not have any problem as long as X assumes all responsibility then it works.

Now if X wants that their contractor should accept rersponsibility of welding done by them then X may ask his subcontractor to qualify new WPS.
If they insist them to use thier WPS it means he wants their subcontractor to supply welders only and wants to qualify using their existing WPS as reference documents.

Here in this case X (EPC Company) is reponsible for all welding done by them. Commercially they may hire their own welder or ask subcontractor to supply welders.

Hope this is clear to you.

Hi,

If a contractual item call for a specific WPS then you shall use it , other wise the contractual item should specify the aplicable standard for weldings and you shall use it and choose or qualify a WPS according to that standard.

Note: Generally the contractor write the WPS as a basic engineering deliverable.

Dear all, can anybody guide for following problem ?...................for example any EPC company has goven a contract for fabrication to a sub contractor....and that EPC company wants the contractor to follow their WPS only...and also they are forcing the contractor to conduct welder qualification tests only......my question is that can any contractor follow the WPS established by their client without further qualification from his side ?................
