dear friends,
-- as root gap is not an essential variable ,the only requirement is to revise the WPS.but also we have to make sure that the welder is of that capable to attain a weld without defects.

Dear Georgios dilintas,
Thanks for your response.
If we have to revise our wps, what we have to revise?
How width maximum permissible gap for buttering as per asme IX?
And how width maximum permissible gap for joint preparation allowable by asme IX? Thanks
Best regards,

For the realization you should start with some buttering to reduce the gap

Dear All, I have problem in joint preparation. According to design drawing & WPS the root gap for welding 48mm carbon steel plate by SMAW process is 3 mm, but actual we have gap more than 10 mm. This welding is for pressure vessel (ASME VIII Div.2).Can we weld this joint with gap more than 10 mm? as per ASME IX for SMAW process root gap is not essential variable. ThanksBest regard,Lukman
