Dear Gents,
I am not an expert in hydro test. But I like to share my understandings with you.

[1] If air lock presents
- You cannot get accurate pressure readings
- Unstable pressure
- The entrapped air may cause damage to your equipments, because of expansion of air (you don't know/can't measure the volume of entrapped air)
- It may cause severe failure to your piping system (Air energy is severe than hydro energy)
[2] Reasons for air entrapment
- The general all places filled with air, so the pipe is not empty. you are going to replace air with water.
- So now you know that the principal reason for air entrapment is you are trying to fill water without removing the air (no ventilation).
- Some times poor ventilation, I mean water filling high in volume but vent size is too small or no of vents not sufficient.
[3] Precautions
- Ensure the piping system have necessary vents and drains
- Before starting water filling open all vents
- Fill water slowly avoid turbulence
- Overfill and watch water discharge at vents for bubble free water falls.
- If bubbles present overfill until bubble free water discharge achieved.
I believe that the above points will helpful to you
With regards
