[MW:15118] UT as per ASME Section VIII Div.2 & ASME Section V

Dear Experts,

With reference to the ASME CODES, we are in a quest of detailed justification pertaining to our queries as listed below:-

As per ASME section V (Edition.2010 Addenda 2011) Article 4. Clause No T.475.1 which is added in new addenda (the same is attached for your reference). This clause states that we have to carry out Ultrasonic scanning from the nozzle inside surface.

Now relating this clause with our forthcoming  projects with applicable code as ASME Section VIII Div-2 Ed 2010 Add 2011.

UT is mandatory for category D joint for sizes above 6" or thickness greater than 16 mm and we have almost all the jobs with thickness above 16 mm.

But for carrying out the UT from inside for the nozzles 6" and below is not possible, which is further a violation to the code "ASME Section V" as stated above. Thereby in order to comply the same we have to go for lip type nozzles. If we use lip type the below queries needs to be answered:-

1)      Can we use detail 5 given in table 4.2.13 in ASME Section VIII Div.2.

2)      And if we can use it then how much lip length to be considered on each side.

Please give your inputs on the same.

Regards,
