Re: [MW:15087] PWHT REQUIREMENT FOR REPAIR OF FILLET WELD

Hi,
If your vessel under service requirement, you should do PWHT after repair.

If it is not under service requirements, then you can do repair to increase the fillet size without PWHT but repair should be done before hydrostatic test.

Please refer UCS56(f).

Thanks & Regards,

Subject: [MW:15058] PWHT REQUIREMENT FOR REPAIR OF FILLET WELD

Dear All,

Greetings.

A Vessel is being fabricated as per ASME SEC VIII DIV 1.

Material  of the Shell  is SA 516 GR 70 HIC - 30 mm Thk.

PWHT of the vessel  is already completed. PWHT is a Service requirement.

After PWHT it was found out that FILLET WELD of  NOZZLE PAD to SHELL  is less than the requiremnt. Nozzle Pad thickness is  30 mm. pad is welded on external surface of the shell.

Actual fillet is 12 mm less than the required fillet size.

Please advice whether Repair ( increase of fillet weld size) can be done without RE- PWHT.

Please give Code reference.

Thanks & Regards

Asad Azmi
