Re: [MW:28059] ROOT GAP QUALIFICATION WHEN QUALIFYING WPS/PQR/WPQ

Root gap is not an essential variable. It is based on skill of the welder. It is general practise to specify tolerznce as it is a fabrication work not machining. So you can say 1.5mm+1.5 mm

Dear Team,

I have some question in my mind regarding WPS/PQR/WPQ Qualifications. Explain below.

1. I have qualified wps with(SAME SEC IX)-
    Materials : SA 240 GR 316L TO SA 240 GR 316L (P8 G1 TO P8 G1)
    Process : GTAW.(with back gauge)
Thickness: 8 mm to 8 mm.
    Root gap: 1.6 mm

Now my question is about root gap qualification,
If i qualify WPS with above parameters having root gap 1.6.The range qualification of thickness is 4 to 16 mm. likewise is there any range for Root gap qualification?

YOUR ASSISTANCE IN THIS MATTER WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
