Re: [MW:23263] RE: 23260] Dissimilar Joint between P22(2.25Cr-1Mo) to P91( 9Cr-1Mo-V)

Dear Goswami,

As per your last message" If you buttering with Inconel-182, thereafter welding with B9 and B3 welding electrode, it'll create nothing but complex welding
metallurgy. NOTE ONE SHOULD NOT WELD ON AUSTENITIC ALLOYS, WITH FERRITIC ELECTRODES. Just check the composition from the basic rules of dilutions The reverse (using austenitic electrode on ferric steel)will work."

Are you so kind to be give us more details regarding " compex welding mettalurgy "created if buttering with Inconel 182 is followed by welding with B9 and B3 welding electrode.

Hi
Rusabh,

There's
something wrong in the selection procedure of
welding electrodes. What you mentioned, i.e. use of Inconel
welding electrodes
applies for DMW between Grade-91 and Austenitic
S.S.

If you buttering
with Inconel-182, thereafter welding
with B9 and B3 welding electrode, it'll create nothing
but complex welding
metallurgy. NOTE ONE SHOULD NOT
WELD ON AUSTENITIC
ALLOYS, WITH FERRITIC ELECTRODES. Just check the
composition from
the basic rules of dilutions. The reverse (using austenitic
electrode on ferric
steel) will  work.

This welding could
be easily done by using B3 or B9
welding electrodes , and  butt welding P22 to P-91
steel.

Thanks

Hello,For dissimilar welding between P22 to
P91, i have used
Inconel  182 electrode.is it correct electrode.I have
also tried buttering
of inconel 182 on P22 and P91 and balance welding with B9
and B3.Then PWHT at
740 for 3  hours.. With buttering Side bend specimen
fails adjecent to
buttering in weld.. what can be reason for it?
