[MW:23278] RE: 23275] Hey Dear Experts, what is the different between welding SS316 and 317?

The major difference is that Mo is higher than 316L.Cr Ni is also marginally higher.Please see the tables below. Higher Mo could lead to marginally higher "Ferrite" in the weld metal.If the design specification calls for controlled ferrite, it has to be ensured by consumable manufacturers.
 
Welding precautions are as like SS. 316L.If required by clients specifications " separate PQR" would be a requirement.
