You should ďont worry about location , just be sure and instruct your lab that your sample shall not be less than 6.4 mm by 6.4 mm (80% of actual thickness) .otherwise you have to apply temperature correction .location shall be weld metal , HAZ are mandatory.in addition to that Generally we conducted the base material adjacent to HAZ to verify the base material impact properties.be sure that you should understand the temperature correction table of UG 84 with the help of some senior person .after that you will never find any problem in future .if your shop is U stamp certified than no one can explain u this table efficiently other than a Authorised Inspector.

Kindly advise size and location of impact test specimen for HAZ for 8mm PQR test coupon.
In table UG84.6, it said 1/4t to 1/2t single side, what does it mean.
Is this mean that specimen should be between this, then specimen size will be 2mm.
Two side weld it said middle 1/2t, what will size & location of HAZ specimen.
Pls advise
