LTCS have high toughness value because of heat treatment (normalizing above 800C and quenching) they undergo during manufacturing process. Other wise chemical and tensile properties are in the same range.

ASTM A333 Gr.6
Chemical composition
C-0.16, Si-0.19, Mn-1.03, P-0.010, S-0.003, Cr-0.18 and etc....
Mechanical properties
YS-315 mpa
TS-478 mpa
Heat treatment condition
Normalised at 920 degree C
ASTM A106 Gr.B
Chemical composition
C-0.15, Si-0.15, Mn-1.05, P-0.020, S-0.010, Cr-0.20, Ni-0.020 and others
Mechanical properties
YS-295 mpa
TS-515 mpa
Heat treatment condition
Hot finished
As you see there is no major difference between these two pipe grades by chemical composition and mechanical properties. therefore the question I would formulate as follows:
1. If the above parameters are similar why we can not use 106 gr b pipe in low temperature service?
2. Which mettalurgical or chemical process makes the pipe LTCS?

A106 Grade Carbon steels are called KILLED carbon steel and used for Normal and Hot services(Temperature ranging between 100 oF - 750 oF .Where as A53 Grade carbon steels were not called as Killed caron steel.
A106 Grade B Carbon Steel Pipes - Pressure and Temperature Ratings
Pressure (psig) and temperature (deg F) ratings of A106 Grade B carbon steel pipes - temperatures ranging 100 oF - 750 oF
Ratings are given for standard seamless pipes at temperatures ranging 100 oF - 750 oF. Ratings in psig based on ANSI/ASME B 31.1.2) XS (extra strong) = schedule 80

What is the real difference of ASTM A333 pipe from ASTM a106grB?
ASTM A333 is a low temperature CS pipe but 106 is not. What is the main features of Low temperature CS steel pipes by their chemical composition and mechanical properties?
Please share your experience on this.
