Re: [MW:24455] Welding process selection.

If you are going to do welding in site in multiple positions then SMAW is best option. Portable easy accessible torch.

Deposition rate of FCAW is more as compare with the SMAW .

You need gas when you use E71T-C electrode . where as in SMAW no additional protection is required .

If the site is open yard ,windy and multiple position welding  then SMAW is most preferable as compare to any other welding process . Which gives better protection of weld pool as compare with other welding process in open yard .

Consumable cost is high for FCAW as compare with SMAW .

Undercut is not depends on welding process it depends on welder . Welder can avoid undercut by increasing travel speed. Undercut purely based on welder technique .

Strength of the weld should be proved only with the PQR as per standards . Conduct a PQR for FCAW and prove the strength.

Dear sir,

I need 1 help from you that as following.

1. we are doing bridge fabrication for L & T as per indian standard. For fillet stiffener welding they have approved SMAW .

During SMAW we found numer of undercuts & slow process in welding.

2. We have recommended to use FCAW E71T-C welding process instead of SMAW E7018 . They are partially agreed & asking to submit that process comparison to choose FCAW to ensure that it fullfill the strenght of weld.

Please share your opinion.
