Hi in my opinion it should be specified in the contract spec if they want specifically for every weld process. However the probe has to be in contact with the weld metal to get the FNo and if there is no sufficient opening for the probe to fit in then it would be difficult unless you access from the back side of the weld. The range stated by you is a bit tight normally it is from 3 to 8, and I did this tests recently and it was around 5+.This is just my experience.Keep posting the results.Regards
Sent from my iPhoneDear Exerts,
Kindly suggest on following issue
We have a job on which ferrite content test is essential. we are welding with root run by GTAW & sub sequent layer by SMAW. Please confirm whether it is essential to check the ferrite content of the root or final weld.(top of the weld.)
Base Material-SA 240 TP 316L
Filler Wire/Electrode:- ER-316L & E-316L
Also our requirement is 2FN to 5FN kindly suggest any filler wire/Electrode manufacturer.
