Dear Sir,
If it's mentioned in your specification then you need to follow it strictly, 2 passes minimum is followed in most of pipeline welding.

In a cross country pipe line welding, pipe is held by a side boom with a belt. After completion
of root pass, pipe is lowered on skids, and then the boom moves forward to pick up next pipe.
During the hanging of the pipe in the belt and to strengthen the root pass the second pass i.e.,
hot pass is welded after initial grinding the root weld and to be done within a short time of 5 to 7
minutes to avoid any likely development of fissures or cracks in the root.
That is what your project specification / manual says about weld interruption. 2 fill passes ( root &
hot pass) to be completed in the event of stoppage of work due to any reason.
For weld LF & LP and other interruptions / defects, you can refer to API 1104, or any code as
mentioned in the client's manual

Dear Friends,What is the percentage of weld interruption in pipeline butt weld? andWhere is mention about weld interruption any code or standard or specification? In my project (Gas Pipeline) they are mention following statement about weld interruption in the project specification.Welding shall continue until at least 2 filler passes have been completed. In the event of stoppage due to weekends, holidays and inclement weather, incomplete welds other than restrained Tie-in welds may be left for more than 48 hours provided that at least two fill passes have been completed.Lawrence.--
