Question: Two pressure vessels, each with a separate U symbol and Manufacturer's Data Report, are welded together at their respective nozzles. Is the weld itself subject to the requirements of Section VIII, Division 1?
Reply: No. U-1(e)(1)(a) indicates that the geometry of pressure-containing parts includes the welding end connection for the first circumferential joint for welded connections. Further, this welding is being done subsequent to the stamping of the vessel. The applicable requirements are those indicated by the jurisdictional authorities at the point of installation.
