Dear Rupesh Thanks for your reply. I am doing inspection for CARDBON STEEL PIPES (PSL2) manufacturing by SAW method. Ours pipes length requirement is 12 meter to 18 meter (means length should be minimum 12 meter and maximum 18 meter). This pipe manufacturer has some short length pipes like 8 meter, 6 meter; 5meter etc. of same Grade and they want to join some short length pipes by SMAW method. After joining this short length pipes by SMAW method that pipes will be accepted in the category of PSL2 Pipe or not. THIS TYPE OF PIPE IS ALLOW AS PER API5L/PSL2. If yes then then what the mandatory requirements for inspection/testing of that short lengths jointed pipes. Dear all, After performing major inspection activities on API 5 L pipes & I have clear understanding regarding Major difference between the API 5L- PSL 1 & PSL 2 Pipes. Note:- 1) Major difference is, In case of PSL1, Impact test is not mandatory and in case of PSL2, Impact test is mandatory at minimum 0 deg C. 2) Further, in case of PSL2 there is a range of Yield Stress and Tensile Stress. In case of PSL1 there is a minimum value of Yield Stress and Tensile Stress 3) API 5L PSL -1 is normally used for category D or normal service fluids. i.e. cooling water, utility water, air etc services and not required many of the testing requirements, where as PSL-2 pipe is used for category M fluids i.e. Hydrocarbons, Sour etc., requiring NACE compliance, hence more costly. Reply to : rupesh.jambhale@mottmac-india.com Visit us : www.mottmac.com DEAR EXPERTS WHAT IS DIFFERANCE BETWEEN PSL1 & PSL 2 CARBON STEEL PIPE. I AM DOING INSPECTION FOR PSL2 CARBON STEEL PIPES (BY SAW PROSESS AS PER API5L). OUR PIPE'S LENGTH ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA IS 12 METER TO 18 METER. MANUFACTURER HAS SO MANY SHORT LENGTH PIPES LIKE AS 8 METER, 7 METER & 10 METER. HE WANTS TO JOINT TWO SHORT LENGTH PIPES BY SMAW PROCESS. I WANT TO ASK THAT IF MANUFACTURER IS JOINING TWO SHORT LENGTH PIPES THAT PIPE WILL BE ACCEPTED AS PER API5L FOR PSL2. MANUFACTURER IS SAYING THEY HAVE APPROVAL FROM CLIENTS ABOUT ABOVE MENTIONED ISSUE.ME SHOULD GIVE RELEASE FOR THAT PIPES OR NOT. IT IS ALLOW OR NOT/AND WHERE IT IS MENTIONED THAT FOR PSL2 PIPES IF LENGTH ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA IS MENTIONED BY CLIENTS/API5L AFTERTHAT MANUFACTURER WILL JOIN TWO SHORT LENGTH PIPE AND HE WILL PROCESS THAT PIPES AS PER PSL2 PIPES.
