RE: [MW:11514] Welder's approval as per JIS but WPS is as per SEC IX

Read QW-423.1 and QW-423.2.

In part QW-423.1 reads: ". . . When a base metal shown in the left
column is used for welder qualification the welder is qualified to weld
all combinations of base metals shown in the right column, including
unassigned metals of similar chemical composition to these metals."

And QW-423.2 reads: "Metals used for welder qualification conforming to
national or international standards or specifications may be consider as
having the same P-number as an assigned metal provided it meets the
mechanical and chemical requirements of the assigned metal. The base
metal specification and corresponding P-number shall be recorded on the
qualification record."

Therefore, for the purpose of welder qualification, provided the JIS
material can meet the stated requirements for equivalency, then the
welder can be considered qualified per ASME Section IX.

Dear Dave,
As you asked, according to my view if a WPS is qualified as per ASME
Section-IX. Welder will be acceptable on JIS specification. But it
must be check that in every case it follows the same or not.
