RE: [MW:11428] SS 304L piping leaking

Dear Kumaran,

Since it is not a standard practice to send utility water through 304 SS pipe as it is very expensive I would ask why the need for the 304SS pipe from the beginning?

Secondly the water treatment of the water can contain large amounts of Chloride from the filtration process that can affect the pipe.

Third is the pipe underground? If it is you may want to take a sample of the ground and also check the for proper bonding against the electrolysis.

Regards,

   Dear Kumaran,

For a technical root cause analysis you need to perform the testing of the water. The dissolved gases, PH, chloride ion being the most important parameters. Without the water analysis report, no one can help and all would be guess and anticipation.

I can guess the reason but prefer to leave it to the test result.

Dear experts,

Could you please anyone explain me why SS 304L piping leaking. Its service is just utility water and duration of service is not even 1 year. Also leaks were observed many locations only on weld and HAZ. What could be the causes leak?
