Re: [MW:22560] Welding of insulation pin.

Dear
As long as the process and type of process is same as qualified one and maintaining all the essential variables. Then there is no need to qualify a separate procedure.

That is correct. Need to watch qualified base metal thickness requirements if not fillet welds.

Dear members,

I have to fabricate Boiler casings, ducts, stacks etc. and we need to weld insulation pins. My client told us to qualify a procedure for stud welding. we have qualified GTAW procedures and SMAW groove welding procedures as per ASME Section IX. I told to our client since we had a qualified procedure then no need for another stud welding procedures because we are not going to use stud welding machine or any other technique. we will use only GTAW or SMAW process with our qualified procedures. Fabrication code is ASME Sec, I.

My question is do I need a procedure for qualifying stud welding or can I use the existing procedure after checking all parameters are acceptable for welding.

My understanding is that if we are not using a stud automatic welding machine then no need for qualifying another procedure.

Thanks and Regards.

Manoj
