Gents, there are GTAW flux cored filler rods on the market. This is used in situations where purging is not practical. The flux in the filler creates the gas to shield the weld pool. This does leave a deposit of slag on the root run. If you are doing a weld where the root is inaccessible for grinding or chipping, the only way to clean the root run is by chemical means as advised previously.

TIG probably is mistyped FCW(flux cored welding) he might mean MIG.
