Re: [MW:22558] Normalized carbon steel pipes

Please read carefully ASM Vol.9 (Metallography) which says about the limitation in metallography to predict normalized structure of plain carbon steels.

Re: [MW:22518] Normalized carbon steel pipes

Normalizing takes place at 900 - 950 degC with subsequent cooling in still air.
Heating at 900 - 950 degC means full re-austenization.
Subsequent cooling in still air leads to grain refinement.
Therefore normalizing changes the microstructure...

Dear Ali,
Unfortunately, there is no defined DT or NDT method for detection normalized samples. As you know in normalizing process there is no change in the microstructre. In those cases some standards suggest impact testing, but this test won't guarantee the normalization process as I individually have test some samples which they didn't normalize and passed the impact requirements.
Also keep in mind that premier companies do the normalization during their Thermo-mechanical process of rolling or milling and not in a separated process.

Dear experts.
In our material spec. said some C.S products shall be supplied in normalized condition.
Now received carbon steel pipe fabricated by normalized plate, but not said anywhere in certificates about heat treatment condition of pipe.
Is it possible to find with DT type of heat treatment? acc. to which standard?
This condition for which pipe size is critical?and  if they are not normalized what have detrimental effect on member?
Regards.
