[MW:14087] Weld Repair Allowable for Casting

Dear Expert

Can anyone describe how much weld repair allowable for casting ie valve.

Because as per ASTM material spec relevant to Casting product (ie A216, A352, A487), all are mention that allow us to repair by welding provided that ;
   1. When casting are produced with NDT - MPI is specified, weld repairs shall be inspected with the MPI to the same standards apply originally.
   2. When casting are produced with NDT – RT is specified, weld repairs shall be inspected with the RT to the same standards that are used with condition that the:
          a.      repair due to leakage on hydrostatic test, or
          b.      repair in which depth cavity exceeds 20% of wall thk or 1 in (25mm), which ever is smaller, or
          c.      repair with cavity surface prepared is greater than 10 in2 (65cm2).
      It means that, when none of above, MPI/DPI will take precedence. (correct me if wrong).
      Note that, stress relief or heat treatment shall be done after welding when any repair as per (a), (b) or (c) is identify..

However, how much (thickness or area) weld repair is allowed?

Thanks
Ghafor
