Dear Martin:

Weld deposit by rutile type Flux Cored welding wire has less crack resistance comparing with basic type. You are carrying out PWHT, so either the thickness is high or base metal requires PWHT. This means that the basic type should be more of an engineering choice here.

Can you tell us more about the base metal grade & thickness and also the application...?

Rutile flux is used to weld mild steel and is very ductile so no PWHT is usually required. In what type of wire was it in,  and what type of steel was it used on?
