What you have mentioned is Basemetal thickness but in Welder qualification only weld metal thickness is an essential variable qualified from 0 to applicable weld metal thickness for each process, BM thickness is unlimited

i have two wps's for piping cs/ltsc welding with the asme b31.3 ans sec 9 one thickness range is 3 to 20 mm and the second is 20.01to 31.22 pwht requiered .the two is GTAW+SMAW
i have a welder qualify in test coupon 6'' 14.27 mm
my question is this welder will qualify to weld in the two wps or we should make another qualification for him seperately
