Hi Mahesh,
if you want to go with double side welding it is allowed to do in many codes, however u need check in client specifications, are they allowing this or not, some client specification says change in sequence of qualified /approved welding procedure is not acceptable.
if you want to weld this 48" x 25mm thickness both side welding, it is better to use full SMAW process to complete the joint faster.
u need to prepare a separate SMAW -WPS by using same PQR showing the joint configuration and take approval from client and proceed with welding, no client will object this.
back welding with GTAW may not preferable, it is allowed to do with GTAW also but it is not economical.
u can use GTAW for back welding by demonstrating the process though qualified PQR as welding parameters will be different from the earlier PQR qualified for back welding.
Respected experts ,Happy Sunday to all.A 48 " tubular having 25 mm thickness we made a single bevel butt joint. The root & Hotpass is welded with GTAW and fill up and capping is welded with SMAW.My query is that,Is back welding is required or not . If required , please tell the procedure of back welding.I mean to ask ,1. which welding process should I use GTAW or SMAW for back welding. ?2 . With back gouging or without back gouging. ?
