RT has got tolerance ( Some discontinuities are acceptable), so it is better to pressure leak test and RT is not substitute for leak test because while doing leak test some acceptable discontinuities may open which is hindrance in service

Dear Pratish

I am considering the situation you have is on piping weld joint ( it's not mentioned in your query). An hydrostatic leak test is only substituted with a service leak test when it is not practical to carry out one, the conditions for which are detailed in ASME B 31.3 para 354 Testing.   RT is not a substitute for a hydrostatic leak test.

Dear Prakash ,

RT is applicable if its a Golden joint .  Hydrotest / pneumatic is done to check the integrity of the whole line.( welds and material ) . There are services which has 100%RT and pneumatic test as well . So I don't think RT is a option.

Re: [MW:24598] GTAW weld weaving

As per Section IX, Weld Weaving is non essential variable for GTAW process.

As such it is based on your WPS  which was qualified and recorded . If your job is having , Notch Toughness requirement, then dont go for more weaving which will reduce toughness properties. Go with multi layers .

Thanks

RE: [MW:24597] GTAW weld weaving

You won't find a specific para for weave width, other than ASME section 9, relating to your WPS that has been qualified.  Maximum weave width shall be as stated in your WPS (welding procedure).

I believe this will be true for other Standards.

Re: [MW:24590] PRESSURE TESTING OF CONTROL VALVES

Hi,

As per my understanding normally they do pressure testing for each valve and may be the for the printing sake they prepared one report as all the conditions are same.

Please verify with the valve manufacturer for the conclusion.

Hi,

Essential variable clause for this case is..

Clause 3.11.1 says that

" Groove preparations detailed for prequalified SMAW joints maybe used for prequalified GMAW or FCAW "

I think that combination is acceptable.
