Please follow your client requirement / specification, further in general practice or EIL specifications / standards in India for pipe diameter 2 inch and below use GTAW, above 2 inch you may use SMAW welding process.
Convince your client and carry out welding.

SMAW . But our Client ask us, first pass of welding should be by TIG
welding. Then SMAW welding. Is TIG welding necessary in socket
