Re: [MW:12986] Joint preparation-root gap

You are allowed but you have to revise your Wps without a new PQR.
For the realization you should start with some buttering to reduce the gap

  Subject: [MW:12981] Joint preparation-root gap

Dear All,

I have problem in joint preparation. According to design drawing & WPS the root gap for welding 48mm carbon steel plate by SMAW process is 3 mm, but actual we have gap more than 10 mm. This welding is for pressure vessel (ASME VIII Div.2).
Can we weld this joint with gap more than 10 mm? as per ASME IX for SMAW process root gap is not essential variable. Thanks

Best regard,

Lukman
