Re: [MW:8946] defects in SMAW process

what could be the reason apart from backing the electrodes improperly  for defects  porosity, lack of fusion, under cuts, cracks and burnthrough in SMAW process when welding A53 Gr.B pipes. we got these defects. can  anybody elaborate in  detail about these defects and measures to be taken for good quality weld.

thanks,
shankark

To avoid most of them make sure E 7018 is backed properly  as per electrode manufacturer's recomendations.

we are using A53 gr. B material for pipeline project. in SMAW process,
what defects we can expect in root, hotpass, fillup and capping.  we
are using E6010 2.5 mm for root and E7018 2.5 mm for hotpass and
capping.  for each defect, what measures we need to take for getting
good quality weld..

thanks,
shankark
