Dear K.C.
The basics is that one needs to know client specifications for base material type, welding position, welding process to be used, joint configuration (single V, single bevel, J prep, compounded weld, etc....), heat input allowed.
Then, the consumable selection is taken into account because a WPS and WQ will be required (I imagine).
After running the procedure qualification, then you know what to do and how to do the job.
