[MW:8973] RE: 8972] Peening

Peening is a metal working process in which normally shots are blasted on to the metal surface in order to introduce the compressive stresses on the metal surface. Sometimes it is also used for increasing the reactivity of the metal surface for some surface treatments like laser surface melting or cladding or plating.
