[MW:1613] Re: API 5L X85

according to joint(T,K,Y),the heat sink ,thermal severity number is high & carbon equivalent is very high even for .55,therefore i recomende you run two welding qualification with two preheat temprature.
i think in D1.1,express some ways for calculations for preheat based on CE.

Subject: [MW:1610] API 5L X85

Hi,

I have the material, API 5L X85 bought from two suppliers, and we developed the Procedure for welding of this material for the T, K, and Y joint.

The carbon equivalent of this material vary by considerable amount by two suppliers (0.55, 0.78),

As per D1.1, CE is not an essential variable, but metallurgical point of view, there will be major changes in the weldments properties and behaviour,

How to take it into account this variation in Procedure? Is it allowable variation as per API 5L spec?

Thanks & Regards,

K.Babu
