[MW:1612] Re: 1599] Re: Pneumatic test of Reinforcement Pad for Branch connection in Piping

Dear Friends,
In my Last fifteen years experience 2 times found in RF leakage( outer area welding not in stub to pad welding).
why are we doing leak test for RF even though not mentioned in code.

Any butt or fillet welds we can confirm leakage during hydro test but in RF pad outside welding soundness can't ensure during hydrotest.

If any welding defects ( cracks) in pad outside welding, during process time due to temperature, vibration it will develop slowly. So there will RF pad compensation will fail , it will tends to failure.

That'swhy we are doing leak test to avoid  process time failure.

Mr. Boss

Ur not agree with then but what u said i think its totally not acceptable how can u found leak if ur going to conduct RT. Just i want to know how can u said like tht to change the fitter, welder and welding inspector.

May be u have any experience in RF pad test? But in my knowledge we are doing the RF pad leak test to come to know there is any leak in stub-in or not.

Best Regards

I don't agree with both the reply. RP wrote that it is mandatory
otherwise how we can understand the leakage? If code or client's spec
doesn't require leak test, why we have to do? Of course it is better
to do. Like better to do 100% RT, but in case of 10% requirement, we
accept balance 90% on the basis of 10%. Same way code considers that
the welding between run and branch pipes are OK. More over leaks may
be also from vent holes.
SS wrote that during hydrotest of main line, we can also find leakage
in RF pad. I think this is completely wrong, otherwise we have to
change the fitter, welder and welding inspector immediately.

R. Bose
