hi
i'm confused about following case that written in spec of my project:

When specified on the Project Drawings the weld toes shall satisfied API RP2A

sect.11 requirements. If necessary, the weld toe can be grinded to obtain the

required profile. In that case a rotary burr grinder (no disc grinder) shall be used,

as shown figure 5.1. Grinding shall produce a smooth concave profile at the weld

toe with the depth of depression penetrating into the plate surface to at least

0 . 5 m below the bottom of any undercut, but not deeper than 2mm or 5% of the

thickness, whatever the bigger, below the surface.(pl see the attachment)

0ne question:performing according to the figure, does it cause notch & stress concentration?

two question:is it detrimental for properties of joint?

three:the bigger or lesser, which one correct?

what is the philosophy of this statment?

which T,K,Y joint must be performed according above?

thanks adv
