[MW:26968] Query regarding PWHT governing thickness for lateral branch

Dear Expert,

Could you please provide guidance regarding governing thickness calculation for lateral branch (pipe-pipe) connection with reinforcement pad.

Query :

1.       As per ASME B31.3 section 331.1.3(2012 Edition) – PWHT governing thickness calculation for set-on branch connection with reinforcement pad based on the sketch (3) is grater of Tr+Tc or Tb+Tc. Is it applicable for lateral branch connection especially the crotch area as shown below diagram. If it is not applicable, please advise the criteria to be followed for the calculation of governing thickness for crotch area as per below joint design.
