Re: [MW:15772] Requirement of PWHT in categorie D

Hi!
My interpretation is as Weld metal th is more than 38mm (Base meta +RF pad) which is continuous thk Therefore It require PWHT
( However some of the Designer  do not consider RF pad weld thk in calulating effective thk in such case you may not require PWHT)
My interpretation is PWHT is required for your case

Subject: Requirement of PWHT in categorie D

Dear experts,
we are doing welding in a vessel of joint nozzle to dish with reinforcement pad(pipe thick 10mm(32inch), dish thik 20mm & RF pad 20mm) the weld detail in drawing shows bevel(55 degree) followed with fillet(10mm). All are P1 material.
In my question : the total weld metal deposit is 50mm in a joint(40mm CJP & 10 Fillet)
code says above 38mm groove weld for P1 material PWHT is mandatory and also says groove & fillet exceed 26mm in 2inch pipe PWHT is required.
Now we will do PWHT or not in a particular joint. If not kindly tell the reason.
