Re: [MW:15704] Heteregenous weld - Filler metal choice

Dear,

DMWs, the selection of filler metal compositions for joining base materials of different P-Numbers or compositions shall be as follows:

a) For attaching non-pressure parts to pressure parts, the nominal composition of the filler metal shall match the nominal composition of the pressure part.

b) For other applications, the filler metal shall conform to either base metal composition or to an intermediate composition, whichever is the most appropriate for the application.

Please see the client code for your references.

Dear Experts,

We prepared one PQR alloy steel grade P91 welded to carbon steel.Coupon test welded GTAW/SMAW                        ER90SB-9 / E9015-B9. Our client reject the PQR and said that the filler metal shall be compatible with the lower grade (with crabon steel) in our case.

Do we have any support from code/standard and any metallurgical impact.

Construction code : ASME B31.1

Regards.
