Yes Polarity is an Essential variable according to AWS D1.1, Table 4.5  Point 13). You need to Qualify a new PQR if you change the polarity.

In my company we have a wps qualified in last year with AWS D1.1 for structural steel welds.But now the client has raised a problem that in that wps the polarity of the electrodes which is used for the root run is wrong.The electrode used was E-7016-1 and as per standard the polarity should be +ve. But in place of that we used -ve polarity and the PQR is qualified with that.Since I am new to this company I have to solve the issue for submitting the final dossier.So my question is that whether  this WPS can be revised without re-qualification.
