[MW:5177] PQR tests for tube to tube-sheet strength weld joint -- ASME Sec.VIII div.1

Dear Fede,

Please look at ASME Sec-VIII, DIV-1, Non-Mandatory Appendix A, Basis for Establishing Allowable Loads For Tube To-Tube-sheet Joints.

Para A-3 Shear Load Test, details out the tear test and how it's to be performed. This test is commonly dubbed as Pull-Out Test by many specifications.

Tube –tube sheet qualification test, shall be done as per ASME Sec-IX-QW -193. Sec-IX calls for Visual, LPI and Macro examination. Tear test is normally over and above ASME requirements.

For you case the testing on PQR should be ASME Sec-IX, Visual, LPI and Macro examination + Tear Test/Pullout test. Pull out test would require a separate  tube to tube sheet welding block.

Hope it clarifies your  query.

you have to follow TEMA for heat exchanger and accordingly do the Pull-out

test.

Dear sirs,
according to ASME sec .VIII div.1, which tests are required to perform in PQR for a tube to tube-sheet strength weld joint? in particular tear test is required? (please give me the reference of para of ASME sec.VIII div.1), material involved is Carbon Steel: A350 (tube-sheet) and A334 (tube) welding process is GTAW machine thickness involved: 70 mm (tube-sheet) and 2.77 mm (tube)
Thank in advance
