[MW:3341] R: 3331] Re: Base Metal

For S355 J2 see EN 10025 Part 2 , for this steel Charpy test are carried out at -20°C, delivery condition may be as-rolled or normalised

For S355 G3 see EN 10225 , G3 means that it is a plate with charpy tests at -40°C, delivery condition may be normalised or thermomechanically rolled

They are both C-Mn steels for structural application , S355 j2 is more common while S355 G3 is specifically used for offshore structure or when specific requirements on toughness and weldability are required

Hi!Noberto,

This is Normalised steel basically for Offshore structures in North sea climatic conditions
S355 J2 means 355 N/mm Sq yield strength , J2 means Impact @ -20 degrees C Avg.Impact value is 27 Joules
S355 K2 G3 means 355 N/mm Sq yield strength , K2 means Impact @ -20 degrees C Avg.Impact value is 40 Joules, G3 means Normalised Killed steel
Check dnv.com, Download this code free:DNV-OS-C401 (Mettalic materials)
SMAW process: E7018 & E7018-1
GMAW process: ER 70S-6
FCAW process: E 71T-1C/ E71T-9C

Thanks & Regards,

Hi, everybody
Is there someone who knows this kind of Base Material "S-355 J2 G3", regarding;
1)Similarity with ASTM;
2) Quimical Composition
3) and if possible an adequate electrode with its AWS classification and specification to weld this material.
I'll be glad.
