[MW:3337] Re: CL in water

Dear Kannan

The extent of Chloride  permitted in water for hydrotesting of SS vessels depends upon the customer specification based on the end use.  Generally customer specifies 25ppm.  In extreme cases they demand choride free (DM) water also. So please follow the customer spec.

In the context of valve pressure test API 6D calls for max. of 30ppm
chloride for SS and duplex. I do not remember the claus. Pl. have a
look of the std. At site the piping hydrotest chloride limitation is
defined in a API RP standard which I am not able to recollect now.
Moreover having difficulty in achieving such low limits calls for
relaxation at site overruling such std requirement. 50ppm in such case
is a limit accepted by most contractors and clients.
