These are specially made wires used for GTAW, where back purging is not possible (RXXXX series per AWS A 5.22), the slag formation need to completed removed after root run and subsequent passes by normal filler wire.
Few posting I received directly are reposted here for the group (also I found good literature on www.metrode.com, including corrosion tests), not posting here due to large size attachment.
Thanking you all!

EPRI (Electric Power Research Institute) has a good publication on GTAW with Flux Cored Wire:-
- GTAW with Flux-Cored Wires for Open Root SS Welding. This is a comprehensive document on GTAW with Flux Cored Filler Metals, analyzing practical problems, welding parameters, inter-granular corrosion tests etc. Experience with Kobelco TGX wires are highlighted in this document.
- As far as Flux Cored filler is concerned, Kobelco is a leading supplier, you may check with ESAB also.
- Look in www.globalspec.com for suppliers list. Type in keywords(e.g. GTAW, flux cored, S.S etc) in the search box.

We have done welding with TGX by Kobelco at Oman LNG Plant at Sur, Sultanate of Oman and we used this basically for weld repairs and tie-in welds where purging is not practicable due to length of pipeline and also no soluble dams can be placed on either side of weld joints as the pipeline system is not to be hydrotested (LNG process piping and only to be pneumatic tested).
TGX welding leaves a thin slag layer after completion of weld and easily detached with a slight hammer blow. After welding, we used to hit the weld joint with a teflon padded hammer and air blow the pipeline system to remove the loose slag from internals.

Dear Mr. Raghuram,
In my opinion flux cored wire will not help to protect your root side
of the weld. This because the slag will only be present on the face
side after welding.
Only proper way to protect against oxidation is the use of backing
gas, if this isn't possible you have to accept oxidation of the root
which will certainly influence your corrosion resistance.
Best Regards
