[MW:930] RE: 928] PWHT of SA 333 Gr.3

Is your piping designed as per Chapter IX? If your answer is yes you need 28 deg between tempering and PWHT temp, for other services no code restriction, but yes PWHT temp exceeds Temp temperature will affect the mechanical properties.

This need to taken care while ordering only (tempering at the higher end and PWHT at the lower end of the band), you can also order simulated coupon testing with PWHT temp as specified in table 2 of SA333 or as per your PWHT temperature.

Subject: [MW:928] PWHT of SA 333 Gr.3

Dear Friends,

I encountered a problem with SA333 Gr.3 (P9B) material PWHT. The material is quenched and tempered. As per ASME SEC II the tempering temperature of this material is  565-605 degree celcius. But ASME B31.3 allows the PWHT 593-635 degree celcius.

Is it allowed to do so? Will it effect the tempering property of material if it do above the tempering temperature?

Thanks & Regards
Muhammed Ibrahim PK
