Re: [MW:28659] PQR testing with RT & UT

Hi,
I have one clarification about QW-304. There mention Volumetric test can be perform for WPQR. But process there mention FCAW are not in this. So, what can i do for FCAW process? Is there any code reference that GMAW & FCAW are considering same process?

Thank You

Hi,
There is no such specification in ASME Sec.IX. As per ASME Sec.IX mechanical tests only to be conducted for WPS/PQR regardless of Process(es). But most of the companies do RT or UT before doing mechanical tests to confirm that there is no defect. But this is not a Code requirement.

QW-202 Type of Tests Required

QW-202.1 Mechanical Tests. The type and number of

test specimens that shall be tested to qualify a groove weld

procedure are given in QW-451, and shall be removed in

a manner similar to that shown in QW-463. If any test

specimen required by QW-451 fails to meet the applicable

acceptance criteria, the test coupon shall be considered as

failed.

Thanks & Regards,

Dear Experts,

Why UT along with RT is performed while qualifying a procedure with FCAW welding, At which clause in ASME 9 it is mentioned that UT & RT both has to be performed ??

With regards.
