Re: [MW:16313] RE: 16305] Welding for cast iron repair

1 Use ENiC1 or ENiFe C1 electrodes
2.Cover with glass wool on entire mass except weld/repair area
3. Preheat to min 200 degree celsius and maitain till completion of weld
4. Carry out peening for every weld metal of each electrode till make the weld metal almost flat
5. after completion of weld, cover with glass wool.

Dudy,

By and large Gray and nodular cast irons are weldable, NOT THE WHITE CAST IRONS.

The  recommended  electrodes for welding these  two mentioned varieties are :- Pure -99% Nickel type, and 55 -45 Ni-Fe type . By and large a sustained preheat & interpass temperature control  would be recommended - of the range 150-250 Deg C. Note cast iron can be only repaired,do not expect to have very high level of  metallurgical integrity from this repair.
